Five common encoder types

Encoders can be divided into the following categories.

1. Classify according to the different carving methods of the code wheel holes.

(1) Incremental: It sends a pulse signal (sine and cosine signals are also sent) for every unit angle of rotation

Then it is further subdivided and chopped to produce high-frequency pulses, usually output by A phase, B phase, and z phase. A phase and B phase are pulse outputs delayed by 1/4 cycle, and positive and negative can be distinguished based on the delay relationship. The rising and falling edges of A phase and B phase can be doubled by 2 or 4 times; The z-phase is a single cycle pulse, which emits one pulse per cycle.

(2) Absolute value type: Corresponding to a circle, each reference angle emits a binary value of the corresponding angle, and an external circle recording device can record and measure multiple positions.

2. According to the type of signal output, it can be divided into voltage output, open collector output, push-pull complementary output, and long line drive output.

3. Classification of mechanical installation forms for encoders

(1) Shaft type: Shaft types can be divided into clamping flange type, synchronous flange type, and servo installation type.

(2) Lining type: Lining type can be divided into semi empty type, fully empty type, and large aperture type.

According to the working principle of encoders, they can be divided into photoelectric, magneto electric, and touch brush types.
